Start Green at Home

Do you recycle at your house? If not, you are not alone. In fact, recent estimates suggest that only 35-50% of Chesterfield County households participate in the curbside recycling program. Your tax dollars are paying for it so you should jump on the bandwagon. You will be amazed to see how much of your trash really isn't trash at all. Furthermore, it is as easy as choosing to throw your item away in a trash can or a recycling bag/bin.

But how can you get started?? It really isn't too hard. Find a spot in your kitchen to hold a paper bag or plastic bin. You can place magazines, catalogs, paper, cardboard, cans, plastic and glass bottles, and tin cans all in the same container. Go to Central Virginia's Waste Management site and enter your street name to find out the collection day, sign up for e-mail reminders, and have stickers delivered to place on your bin or can. Then, on your scheduled day, just place the paper bags and/or can at the curb. The CVWMA/TFC trucks will swing by and gather it up.

Check out this video to see what happens to all that recycling after it leaves your home.
